About

TA++ Mission
We are relentless about helping students meet their course learning outcomes in a way that is proactive, positively empowering, and professional.
TA++ Vision
Every student will feel empowered and well supported to master their course material.

What is the TA++ program?

For computer science students at CSUMB, TA++ provides high-quality supplemental computer science academic support in order to help students reach course learning outcomes.

What is a TA++ member?

A TA++ member is a TA…and more! He or she is a student who has taken CST courses (not necessarily a Computer Science major) and is interested in helping students. TA++ members act as a TA for a course and work closely with students and the instructor, but they also meet with the other TA++ members to discuss ways to improve their teaching and tutoring.

How was the TA++ program formed?

In Spring 2014, the first group of TA++ members was selected from a pool of many enthusiastic candidates. TA++s met weekly to discuss tutoring strategies and issues, resulting in a better TA experience for students, TAs, and faculty. Over the past few semesters, the TA++ program has grown to include more classes and more TAs. 231/238/338/370  TA++s have taken on increasingly greater responsibility while helping students in those introductory courses get the best experience possible.

The TA++ program is Computer Science Education Coordinator Katie Cunningham’s twist on the Section Leader concept, adapted for CSUMB. The Section Leader program is the brainchild of Senior Lecturer Stuart Reges, who started the program while he was Senior Lecturer at Stanford University. Stuart founded the program at the University of Arizona in 1998, and then Katie received the benefits of the program as a student approximately ten years later. She proceeded to copy what she saw as the best parts, including much of this paragraph. (Source: UofA Section Leader website)
